Activities & Honors:
Yolette H. Ibokette has 15 years of teaching experience-- ten in Haitian bilingual programs and five in sheltered English programs in the Malden and Cambridge Public Schools. She is also a columnist for the Boston Haitian Reporter, where she writes monthly columns on parenting, education and health. Some of the issues addressed in her columns include: the effects of obesity and inactivity on children’s health; corporal punishment as a form of abuse; racial achievement gaps in schools; and the importance of parental involvement in education.
Additionally, Mrs. Ibokette was the founder and director of the Malden Haitian Teachers (1993-99), a grassroots organization which provided free after-school and summer enrichment programs to Haitian students in Everett, Malden and Medford. She has also served as community liaison for the Child Care Resource Center in Cambridge and is a board member of YOFES (Youth and Family Enrichment Services). Mrs. Ibokette holds a M. Ed. in Curriculum/Instruction from Boston College, an M. A. in Bilingual Education from the University of Massachusetts/Boston and a B. A. in English from the University of Massachusetts/Boston.
