Study Group Page
In order to provide an opportunity for seminar attendees to continue to reflect on and act on the insights and knowledge gleaned from the seminar series, several of the sponsoring organizations have developed study groups. We would like to encourage other institutions and community groups to organize their own study groups.
• Simmons College
Dr. Theresa Perry will teach a 4-credit course in the spring 2007 semester entitled, Race, Culture, Identity and Achievement. This course will examine historical, theoretical and empirical studies that help us understand, explain, and predict the school performance of students of color in the United States. Particular attention will be given to variables affecting the school performance of African Americans, Black Immigrants, Chinese Americans, Vietnamese Americans, Puerto Ricans and Mexican Americans. The course will also examine educational practices, institutional and cultural formations that promote high achievement among Black and Latino students. Simmons College vouchers can be used as payment for the course. The course will be scheduled after the public school day. For more information, email theresa.perry@simmons.edu or call 617-521-2257.
